The Friends of the Rio Grande Initiative (FORG) is a joint effort by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the United States Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC).
FORG was setup to provide the Texas - Mexico border region of the state of Texas with assistance in promoting environmental awareness in an effort to improve the quality of the environment along the border.
In 2005, FORG awarded eight grants to community groups to provide assistance to existing or starting public education and outreach programs and to promote and assist in river and lake volunteer cleanups.
In 2009, the USIBWC Clean Rivers Program awarded five additional projects with funding for river education or water quality projects on the Rio Grande.
This site was established to spotlight groups that are befriending the Rio Grande. You too can become involved by visiting the Be Involved site.
